When I think about what I want to achieve with Baking our blues away, it is many things. Primarily I want to help create a domino effect, that works through the impact of individuals baking one single item and positively impacting many.
On the Website and Facebook pages, I want a safe supportive place for people to come and share their stories through words, images and recipes.
To do that I need to take the lead, I need to share my story. Having said that, my story is not my own, it actually has a lot to do with my lovely husband. If it weren’t for his story, Baking our blues away may never have materialised.
I was almost eight months pregnant, days away from maternity leave and my husband was diagnosed with Cancer. Our lovely happy world fell apart for a small period of time and as a result of the diagnosis, my husband developed anxiety. Imagine the stress that comes from being the primary money earner, a soon to be father of two and have your mortality thrown in your face. Not a great time in our lives. On reflection we can see that my husband had actually suffered anxiety in the past but we had never put a name on it before now.
Fast forward three years, I have two beautiful healthy children, much to my delight a healthy and happy husband and life is back to normal. Anxiety rears its ugly head from time to time, but we can recognise it now and look it square in the eyes.
As part of this process, I invite you to share as little or as much as you like. I am very conscious of the fact that Depression and Anxiety are very personal journey’s. I have found it challenging to share this information.
My hope is that the Baking our blues away community becomes your ‘Happy Place’.
Thank you so much for getting involved. By baking for others, there is a two pronged effect, not only will you make someone else feel valued, you will feel pretty good yourself.
