Major Depression. The worst experience of my life and I haven’t even been given the diagnosis!
I guess the point I would like to bring to the surface is that one Depression diagnosis effects so many people. Watching someone suffer feelings of desperation is heart breaking, knowing that all they wish for is to use suicide for their ‘easy out’. It’s gut wrenching to know that the man you married and envisaged the rest of your life with, the father of your precious kids is ready to leave this life not in a selfish way but with the real thought that we are all better off without him.
As I look back on the journey I’ve travelled I recall the photos of the dinners and baked goodies I’ve provided for my family and the joy they have brought to us. Even the humble chicken pot pies which is my son’s favourite!
This year I’m calling on my ever faithful support system for Baking Our Blues Away as our experience of Depression has left us with no oven or stove top. Thank goodness for friends, a slow cooker and a camp stove!
A conversation can make a difference in helping someone feel less alone and more supported in recovering from anxiety and depression. Don’t underestimate the importance of just ‘being there’.
